Weldbend Corp., an Illinois family-owned company, recently announced the installation of the largest cold-forming T-press in America and Western Europe at its manufacturing facility near Chicago. The company is claimed to be the only full-line manufacturer in the country producing both fittings and carbon steel flanges.
The new Tee-Press will greatly expand Weldbend’s forging capabilities. The machine will be able to forge XS tees up to 20 inches in materials including Y70. Today, the company can forge 6-inch T-shirts using cold forging. Weldbend products are used in mechanical systems and oil and gas pipelines.
“This cold formed tee features a new and innovative design that incorporates the latest technology and far exceeds the capabilities of traditional tee presses,” said James Kulas, president of Weldbend. The largest investment in production equipment of its kind. We have made this aspiration to expand our capabilities and enable us to serve our customers better.”
As the factory displays show, this machine is “HUGE”. It weighs 1.2 million pounds and contains five miles of wire. Its concrete foundation includes 80,000 pounds of steel reinforcement.
The Tee-Press announcement was made last night at the fall PVF Roundtable, the last of four quarterly meetings, in Houston, with Mike Rowe, national television producer and host of The Dirty Job, Somebody’s Gotta, star of Go Do It”, Facebook’s “Returning the Favor” and being the face of “The Deadliest Catch” helped break the news during his keynote speech.
“What these people do is critical,” Rowe said. “They are not only betting on themselves, they are betting on the country. They produce products that make civilized life possible for all of us. They are investing millions of dollars in machines that I have never seen before. .
“Most importantly, they invest in their people. It is impossible to visit a Weldbend facility and not have a good opinion of the country. A family business that makes amazing products right here in the USA.”
